Judging Procedures
JUDGES: WHO JUDGES THE MPE GRANTS, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND AWARDS?
Each year, Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation board scholarship chair selects qualified subject experts—usually 7 to 10 total—to serve as judges for our annual cycle of grants, scholarships, and awards. Our judges are usually (but do not have to be) members of Mu Phi Epsilon, and range from K-12 educators to college professors to professionals in the field! Judges read and rank each application carefully, selecting the winner(s) for each award.
RUBRIC: HOW IS MY APPLICATION RANKED?
View the rubric used to rank all applications here.
Judges rank each application according to the rubric, and use the numerical rankings to determine a Winner (or winners, if more than one award is given), First Alternate, and Non-Winner(s). All applicants can request to review the judge’s comments and rubric scores for their applications.
Applicants can receive multiple awards in a single cycle, so long as the total of the awards is $10,000 or less. No one applicant will receive more than $10,000 total dollars in any given year.
TIMELINE: WHEN WILL I LEARN THE RESULTS OF THE COMPETITION?
The process for completing the judging process and releasing the competition results takes about two months.
Following the application deadline (November 1 / March 1), scholarship chairs first review each application for completeness and eligibility. All eligible applications are then forwarded to the selected judge, who has about one month to review and rank all of the applications in their categories. After receiving the rankings, the Grants & Scholarships coordinator and Foundation Treasurer review the selections, and forward the official results of the competition to the scholarship chairs.
Scholarship chairs will notify all applicants of the results of the competition. For applications due November 1, please expect notification by January 1. For applications due March 1, please expect notification by May 1. If you have not learned the results of your application(s) by these dates, please contact grants@mpefoundation.org.
